• Chemistry test on Wednesday and Thursday.  Review sheet will be given on Monday and Tuesday 
• Early dismissal Wednesday
• No school Friday

Quiz this Thursday and Friday over elements and their symbols.  STUDY STUDY STUDY! 

TAKS TUTORIALS START NEXT WEEK!!!

Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5.  Extra credit will be given for attendance at each session. 

Feb. 25 - Feb. 29

• Begin Chemistry unit
• Webquest Monday and Tuesday.  Chemistry book due Friday (2-29) and Monday(3-3).   The book is a test grade.  Make sure your student does the chemistry book!!
• Periodic table, atomic mass, number of electrons, bohr model

Feb. 11 – Feb. 15

• Continue space unit:  make our own galaxy, big bang theory, red shift, black hole lab
• TAKS parent night Tuesday Feb. 12th at 6:30 in the library.  If a parent or guardian comes to the meeting, your student will receive 10 extra credit points on the most recent test
• Test on space next Thursday and Friday
• Quiz on galaxies this Wednesday and Thursday Feb. 13th and 14th.  

Feb. 4 – Feb. 8

• Test on plate tectonics, rocks, and rock cycle on Tuesday and Wednesday 
• Begin new unit on Space:  black holes, big bang theory, stars, constellations, galaxies, waves, electromagnetic spectrum
• We will finish this unit on February 21st and 22nd with a test.
• Our next unit is Chemistry, which will be completed before Spring Break.

NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED THIS SEMESTER

There is no AIP and students do not get an extra day to bring any work not brought to class.  If a student does not have their work with them, the grade is a zero. 

I am noticing students having a problem completing homework at home.  I am receiving work that has not been attempted and only includes information we did in class together.  Please check with your student to make sure they are completing ALL homework.  This is a fast way to lose a good grade because it remains a zero in the gradebook.

• There are only a couple more weeks to improve averages, so make sure your student is doing their best to raise their grade or maintain their current average.

Nov. 26 – Nov.30

• Finish Human Impact Unit
• Field Trip on Thursday to Brazos Bend State Park
• We will be watching scenes from the movie Erin Brockocich on Friday, November 30 and Monday, December 3. I am sending home a permission slip on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 27th & 28th. If you do not want your child to view the scences, do not return the permission slip. If you do want your child to view the scenes, please sign and return the permission slip. Alternate assignments will be given to students who do not return a permission slip.
• Test next Thursday and Friday, Dec 6 & 7
• Extra credit opportunity: Students can write a song about human impact and present it to me before or after school for 20 extra points. This assignment should be done alone, not with a partner. The song is due by Tuesday, December 4th.

FIELD TRIP! FIELD TRIP!! FIELD TRIP!!!

• Parents: We have a field trip to Brazos Bend State Park on November 29th and we could use your help chaperoning. If you would like to chaperone please let me know and be sure you fill out the proper paperwork with the office.

November 12-Nov 16

• Continue Human Impact unit: Air

November 5-Nov 9

• TEST: Monday and Tuesday (Environment: Food chains, food webs, adaptations, endangered and extinct species and causes, carrying capacity, limiting factors, competition, vocabulary)
• National Middle School Association visits the school on Thursday, November 8th. There will be classroom observers during 6th period.
• Continue Human Impact unit: Land
• We have started having a mini quiz every other class period over the notes we took. Please be sure your student is prepared.

October 29-Nov 2

• Finish Environment Unit
• Begin Human Impact Unit: Air, Land, Water

October 22-26

• Homework due Monday and Tuesday: Attwater Prairie Chicken and Darwin’s Voyage worksheet
• Continue with environment: food webs/chains, populations, carrying capacity
• A quiz will be coming soon

October 8 – 12

• Continue environment unit: adaptations and variations labs
• I sent out current grade sheets last week. If you have not signed and returned this sheet please do so quickly because this counts as a homework grade.

6th-8th Grade Science Teks

• This link takes you to the Texas Education Agency webpage that shows all of the concepts and ideas taught in grades 6-8 science to prepare for TAKS in May.

October 1 – October 5

• Begin new unit on environment. Focus on variations in populations and adaptations this week.
• Current grade sheets will be sent home some time this week. Please be looking for it and sign it.
• Common Assessment (quiz) on genetics this Thursday and Friday. If your child made less than a 70 on the genetics test last week I will average their test grade and common assessment grade and replace the test grade with the average of the two tests.
• There is a one page paper due Monday and Tuesday about your environment, how it changes, how you adapt to it, etc. Please make sure your child has completed this activity.

September 24th – 28th

• Review for test at the beginning of the week.
• Genetics test on Thursday and Friday. This is not a multiple choice test.
• Your child needs to know vocabulary words (found in their spiral), how to apply the words, and how to do punnett squares.

Science Fair

• Will only be offerred during club time this year. If your student wants to participate in science fair they must sign up for science the fair club.

September 17th – 21st

• Continue working on genetics unit
• Quiz on vocabulary and punnett squares on Friday and Monday
