Welcome

August 2007

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Team 8S! We have the wonderful opportunity of teaching your child this school year, and we hope you are having a smooth transition from summer vacation to the start of school.

Team 8S believes strongly in teamwork and the parent connection is especially important in the successful achievement of your child. Communications is highly encouraged, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via phone (713) 726-3616.

In order to maximize learning potential and ensure the safety of your child please remind him or her to:

¨ come to class prepared

¨ follow dress code at all times

¨ follow directions

¨ be seated before the tardy bell

¨ respect themselves and others and

¨ challenge themselves to his/her best

We feel that a student who works is the one who learns. It is reasonable for you to expect your child to have homework almost every night. Our homework policy is designed to prepare students for high school. Team 8S does this in 3 stages.

Stage 1—1st 9 weeks-AIP (Academic Intervention Program) will be assigned for assignments not submitted by the announced due date (late point penalty may be applied).

Stage 2—2nd 9 weeks-AIP will not be assigned and homework assignments are allowed to be submitted one class period late (late point penalty will be applied).

Stage 3—3rd & 4th 9 weeks (2nd semester)-AIP will not be assigned for any reason. Late work will not be accepted. No credit will be given for assignments not turned in on time.

It is important to note that students are responsible for obtaining and completing any and all assignments missed due to absence. HISD policy allows five school days from the date of return for missed work to be submitted. No exceptions.

Feel free to email your child’s teachers if you have any questions about homework as well as reviewing your child’s agenda book daily to help your child stay on track.

We strive to provide educational opportunities and activities for your child outside of the traditional school or classroom setting. In order to achieve this goal it is often necessary to solicit support from the parental community. Therefore, anytime that a parent can volunteer to chaperone a field trip it is greatly appreciated. However, due to district policies, all potential volunteers must complete a criminal background check which is available in the main office.

We look forward to working with you this school year.
